Kia ora, Today, Monday, October 28, 2024, marks the beginning of something I’m truly excited about—The Consistent Discipline Reset Challenge. This year-long journey is dedicated to building a steady, sustainable discipline that feels balanced and supports my goals without adding unnecessary stress. My aim is to create a solid foundation that helps me maintain consistency across all areas of my life: health, relationships, personal goals, fitness, work, and finances.

One thing I’m determined to avoid is the frustrating cycle of being consistently on and off my journey. You know how it goes: eating well one week or for months, then overeating the next; overworking myself until I burn out, only to crash and feel lost. I want to break free from that pattern and find a rhythm that allows me to thrive without feeling overwhelmed.

Since 2018, I’ve tackled various public challenges—year-long commitments, six-month goals, 100-day and 90-day challenges. Each of these has been a stepping stone, offering motivation and a way to reflect on my progress. They’ve helped me stay accountable and see how I’ve grown over time. This year, I’m committing to writing blog posts to document my journey for the next 5 to 6 weeks I will write them daily expressions I've got a lot to do to finish off the year and before I head overseas. It feels like the perfect way to keep track of everything, especially with a lot of resetting to do before I head off to Thailand in a few weeks.

As part of this challenge, I'm looking at finding tools and strategies that I can implement to support my journey. So every day I will be reading over books that I've read before my life or finding new books that I'm interested in to find different strategies and tools I can use to achieve my challenge. In my initial exploration, I delved into Atomic Habits by James Clear a book I've read on numerous occasions. Some insights really resonated with me, particularly the four laws of behavior change:

1. Make it Obvious: I’ll set up cues in my environment to remind me of my new habits.

2. Make it Attractive: I plan to pair my habits with activities I enjoy to create positive associations.

3. Make it Easy: Simplifying my processes to reduce friction will be key in making my new habits fit seamlessly into my daily routine.

4. Make it Satisfying: I’ll incorporate small rewards that celebrate my efforts and keep my motivation high.

Another crucial insight from James Clear: it’s not just the goals we set that guide us, but the systems we create that truly make a difference. Systems are the routines and structures we put in place that simplify our path to achieving our goals. By focusing on developing effective systems, I can create a balanced life that supports my aspirations while minimizing overwhelm.

Using these principles as a guide, I’m excited to create a life that feels balanced and fulfilling. My goal is to find joy in discipline, allowing me to embrace the structure without it feeling like a chore. I believe that by focusing on these systems, I can create a lifestyle that not only helps me avoid burnout but also leads me to achieve my personal aspirations.

Moving forward, I want to spend this next year truly learning how to be consistently disciplined in a way that feels joyful rather than stressful. I’m on a mission to uncover what balance looks like for me—what brings me joy, what helps me thrive, and what aligns with my values and passions.

This challenge isn’t just about doing things differently; it’s about reshaping my identity and embracing a lifestyle that reflects who I am and who I want to become. I’m looking forward to sharing this journey with all of you, and I can’t wait to see the transformation that unfolds.
