What I value in Life: ‘Passionately Failing Towards Success’.

The last 5 years of my life I have been on a massive journey of self discovery which could only be done going on the journey of discovering myself. It has been a lot of hard work, unearthing, and uncovering areas of my life like trauma, fear, shame, bad habits, identifying my strengths, passions I have kept hidden and learning who I really am. We learn at some point in our lives to try to be someone we think people want us to be but that’s not who we are deep down. So I have been working relentlessly on living up to the woman God destined me to be.

I am also on a year-long challenge based around my theme for the year ‘Passionately Failing Towards Success’. Hence this blog being a part of this challenge. It was to ensure that I consistently take action, not hide away, or delay and challenge myself to go outside my comfort zone. It has allowed me to get to my destination faster than ever and get closer to my goals. What I have been discovering more than ever this year is what it really takes to get succeed, how do I get there? And what do I need to do to get there?

Lately I have been asking myself a lot of questions and challenging my way of thinking. If we never challenge ourselves then we will never know how far we can go. I have extended and challenged my limits so consistently that at times I question my own sanity. However the outcomes I see in my life have been worth it. I know I have grown more in the last 5 years than the previous 34 years. This week I wanted to share a few of the things I value in life and what has helped me to get to this stage.

WORK HARD & GOOD WORK ETHICS

One of the biggest things I value in life is the value of hard work and people that work hard. I know a few people who try to do the bare minimum but expect big things. However we reap what we sow. I am grateful that I am willing to spend hours, days, years, decades in the pursuit of the things that I love. I am willing to put in the required time and effort, roll up my sleeves and work!. I definitely don’t know a lot of things but again I am willing to research and learn as much as I can. I do find it difficult to value and work alongside people who are lazy and not willing to try. I definitely limit my time around people who do not try because birds of a feather flock together. What I have learnt is that if you are a hard worker, have good work ethics and never give up that you will succeed.

IGNORE PEOPLE’S JUDGEMENTS

It has been a journey getting to this stage in my life but I am grateful to no longer allow other people’s judgements stop me from pursuing the things I love in life. People would say to not let it affect me but I am a sensitive person, I am not a robot and so I felt the judgements. So 10 to 20 years ago I let it debilitate me and I wouldn’t try. 5 years ago it would hurt my feelings but I would still do it and now I smile and use it as ammunition to level up and thrive. I am confidently working on all the things that I want to pursue from Career, Business and more. My advice is to let their judgments of you drive you closer to success.

SEE & KNOW MY OWN WORTH

Since I was 21 I have always thought I was beautiful inside and out. I have had to continue to work on this everyday. To remind myself that I am beautiful and I am enough just as I am. I 100% believe it is our responsibility to know and see our own worth. It is so empowering to have the knowledge to love who we are, accept ourselves and be proud. It means the world that can be cruel at times with unrealistic standards has no power to drag me down. And no one in the world has the power over me and that is a really beautiful feeling.

DOCUMENT MY JOURNEY

Documenting my life has allowed me to look back at my life and see my progression. To hear my desires in life being hoped for, then worked on and then finally achieved has been encouraging. It has given me such a sense of pride and accomplishment. My biggest regret would be getting to the end of my life and seeing so many things I dreamed of in my life not achieved. I have already fulfilled so many of those things so I can at least say that I am giving it my absolute best. The biggest part of documenting my journey is evidence of my hard work and also being able to use it to share my journey with more people. In hopes that it may inspire someone else.

BE CONSISTENT

My growth has definitely been because I have taken action regularly and been consistent. Consistently working on something has allowed me to find the best way of doing it and know whether what I am doing is the best thing for me. Consistency has taught me how to do things better, allowing me to improve and work on mastering what I love doing.

BE A PERSON OF MY WORD

I am in no way perfect and I don't want to be. I constantly make mistakes however I try my hardest to be someone who does what they say they are going to do and live up to the things that they say. Basically I try my hardest to practice what I preach. I find that this keeps me accountable and it keeps me safe. Safe from other people who may try to sour my name or reputation. It also makes me be very careful of what I do and say to make sure that I can live up to my words.

There are many other areas that I value in life, these are just a few. Knowing what I value in the world helps keep me focused, helps me be very clear on my direction and purpose in life. It helps me to stay on track and know who to have and allow into my life. It helps me to know what are the best decisions for me and guide my direction. The stronger and clearer my values are the better my life has been. I will end on a quote from Dr Prem Jagyasi ‘Your values are embedded within you irrespective whether you discover them or not. Even if you never find them, they still govern your life’.
