If you have watched me on my live videos, read my blogs or posts on social media before, you'll know by now that my biggest priority is knowing myself more than anyone else. That means taking time to learn as much as I can about who I am from:
- Identifying my triggers
- Learning tools to deal with confusion or being overwhelmed
- Monitoring my thoughts
- Taking ownership of my thoughts, feelings & response
- Learning how to keep going when I feel like giving up.
- Taking time out for self-care
- Celebrating my wins
- Setting Goals
- Knowing my value in the world
- Understanding the importance of knowledge
This list is quite extensive and it's because the more we can learn about ourselves, the better we are at navigating life. For my 40th weekly blog, I wanted to share a few tips on why knowing ourselves more than anyone else is immensely valuable.
Creates Self Confidence
This has definitely given me the self-confidence, the edge, the belief to keep going when there is no support, when people are judging me or when I am all alone. I know myself enough to continue and to learn to love myself. Knowing yourself is also learning what you stand for and embracing your potential and abilities.
Ignoring the haters becomes easier
Every time you keep going against the odds and despite the constant judgement, you will eventually learn that you don’t have to make people like you. You learn to be okay with that. Life is too short to please everyone.
You know what's best for you
Knowing yourself allows you to know your worth which helps to better evaluate the world around you. You will are also able to discern whether to take advice from others or ignore them. Knowing yourself makes you realize that there is more to life than making yourself responsible for other people’s happiness.
You learn what works
People will often tell you what you should or should not do. However, when you know yourself, you know what works for you because you know who you are and are willing and open to trying new things.
Your mindset grows
Consistently working on yourself gives you ownership over what happens in your life. Your experiences help you learn, grow, upskill and level up.
You only need your own validation
The best advantage to knowing yourself more than anyone else is your ability to answer your own questions. You don't have to rely on others and neither do you need to seek their validation because you know your worth. When you know yourself, it is a lot easier to identify when you are in alignment with everything around you. I know this because this is the reason why I started my self-discovery journey. So, if you feel lost or feeling like nothing seems to be working for you, start by getting to know who you are and you will be surprised by all the things you will discover.
You hold yourself Accountable
Knowing yourself more than anyone else allows you to hold yourself accountable. You don't blame others or your circumstances. Instead, you make the necessary decisions to improve your life.
Self-acceptance
Knowing ourselves allows you to embrace who you are. This means accepting your strengths, flaws, quirks and weaknesses.
You release self-doubt
Self-doubt holds you back from doing amazing things and being your most authentic self. However, knowing your strengths and weaknesses, we’ll acquire the skill of ditching self-doubt.
Believing in myself and consistently learning about myself has completely changed my life. It has allowed me to take ownership of how I am feeling and what I must do moving forward. I don't blame anyone or my past circumstances for where I am. I am able to be reflect on my progress and learn from it even if I don’t achieve all my goals. I know myself enough to know that I will eventually become the woman God destined me to be. Sharing the good, the bad and everything in between.
