One of the greatest gifts in my life is the absence of toxic individuals in my close circle. I have consciously curated my relationships to be surrounded only by positive, supportive people who uplift me rather than bring me down or judge me. While I may encounter negative remarks or judgment from others outside my circle, I choose not to let that toxicity infiltrate my life. The friends and family I keep close celebrate my successes and support me through challenges, creating an environment that nourishes my spirit and fuels my passion for helping others.
This commitment to positivity extends into my work with tamariki and rangatahi in Maia Dreams Charitable Trust confidence-building programs. I strive to impart the importance of self-worth and resilience to the younger generation. By nurturing a toxic-free life, I find joy and inspiration that guides my every action.
However, moving into the realm of social media presents its own set of challenges. I know that being in the public forum invites a myriad of thoughts and opinions, and it’s something we have to accept. What I don’t agree with, though, is the expectation that we should accept hate as part of this landscape. It troubles me that some people seem to support the negativity that permeates the online world simply because we have a public presence. It's mind fboggling how many unsolicited opinions people feel entitled to share based on such limited information many times not even watching the video or learning about somebody. I’m not interested in feedback that doesn’t align with my vision and goals for myself. It's interesting that some individuals wish to dictate what's best for those of us who know ourselves and are committed to our personal growth, while they struggle to understand what’s best for themselves.
When I started this page back in 2017, my goal was to spread love and positivity. Over the years, I’ve shared various aspects of my journey, but I’ve remained committed to my values. I don’t smoke, drink, or do drugs. I don’t promote spicy content or engage in fights with other social media figures. I don’t talk badly about others, although I have shared experiences without naming names. My focus has always been on positivity. I’m not trying to be a superhero; these are simply the values and standards I was raised with and strive to uphold.
I genuinely wish that positive content would be valued and supported more than the toxic negativity prevalent in society today. A significant part of my social media strategy reflects this desire; I often find that the posts which garner the most engagement are the ones that resonate positively with my audience. My challenge is that if positive posts don’t receive the visibility they deserve, it becomes harder to spread that positivity.
Ultimately, we need to create a culture that encourages uplifting messages and celebrates those who strive to make a difference in a positive way. Let’s continue to share love, kindness, and positivity, and together, we can cultivate a community that thrives on encouragement instead of division.
