THERE IS A FORMULA
I can feel that I am on an upward incline in my life and that’s great. I also realize at the same time that I could be doing things better, smarter with a bigger pay off. Everything that we do in life usually has a formula, and if we follow that formula, it will allow us to do things more efficiently and effectively. Well, more times than not. As an actress, there is a craft to storytelling. From audience engagement, eye contact, the use of breath, the way we hold ourselves, our gestures, tone, volume and what we say. The more you learn and perform, the more skills and knowledge you gain. You learn how to do things better. Not that the work you are doing has gotten easier, it's just that you have more experience and skills to approach doing it. Also, I don’t believe things should get easier. Every time you do it, you should be challenging yourself to go deeper, to learn more, test different things, push yourself further outside your comfort zone and gain more knowledge and skills to do it better.
SMALL INCREMENTAL STEPS
So I am looking at my life wondering what I can do more efficiently and effectively today that will allow me better results and improved outcomes tomorrow. ‘The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results. Whether Albert Einstein said this or not, it’s definitely a quote that rings true for me. So I need to always be looking at how to improve what I am doing. I was recently on a friend of mine Frank Marco's ‘The live your greatness podcast ( link to this is at the bottom of this Blog). In one part we spoke about all the small incremental steps that we take daily that create the biggest changes. We spoke about how the life we are currently living is all because of the smaller steps we have been previously taking. We talked about whether we have a ‘to do or not to do list’? I believe it's important to have both. I personally need a plan or checklist of the things that I need to do and work on. At the same time, I need to be able to reflect on my life and look at the areas that are contradicting my goals and work on not doing them anymore.
THE RIGHT TIMING
With that in mind, if I want better results and outcomes this year, what do I need to do to take my life to the next level? One area I'm working on is learning to have faith in God. In 2021 I made it a goal to ‘Let God Prevail’ and I did pretty good. However, a lot of the time I didn’t have Faith in his timing and was really impatient. Being impatient created unnecessary anxiety and stress and put unneeded pressure on me. So now, I am trying to figure out how to let him prevail and be more faithful in his timing. Whether you believe in God or not, I know the principle can still apply. How do you ask? Our tendency is to want overnight success and an easy journey. But everything has timing and process. Sometimes, we believe that because we are not further in our journey, we have failed or that we are doing things wrong. This is not true at all. This timing is to allow us to learn as much as we can about what we are doing. There are experiences we are meant to gain and information we need to acquire. Or sometimes, we aren't ready or someone else is not ready. If we are open to the process, things usually work out the way they are meant to and in the time it is meant to.
STAY CONSISTENT
So, taking my life to the next level is all about working everyday on improving. To keep going, keep learning, keep growing and to NEVER GIVE UP. 'Passionately Failing Towards Success' is all about consistently working on my goals and if I do that, it will take my life to a different place than where I am today. I may not get as far as exceeding my own expectations, but if I continue to work on the small things, I know I will naturally move the needle in my life. When I get to the end of this year, I will no doubt be farther ahead than I am right now. That is progress and that, to me, is taking my life to another level.
